Chelsea football club have confirmed
that they have sacked Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese had endured a difficult
start to the league as his side were
beaten by Leicester City las weekend
in what was the club’s 9th defeat this
season. The decision doesn’t come as
a big surprise even though Mourinho
was a much loved figure in the blue
half of London. The team did well in
the Champions League, but their
Premier League form was nowhere
near good enough.
Chelsea’s slump was so alarming that
the fans were talking about the
potential relegation six-pointer
against Sunderland. Mourinho’s side
had failed to stay unbeaten for even
three games in the league. Ever since
the season started, Chelsea were in
the wrong news. The whole incident
with Eva Carneiro, the melt down in
the media regarding the Gabriel
incident and the often pretentious
press conferences along with the
miserable run of the team was just
too much for the Chelsea hierarchy to
take who released the statement, “All
at Chelsea thank Jose for his immense
contribution since he returned as
manager in the summer of 2013.”
The team is in the 16th position, so a
title challenge was unlikely. They
were also booted out of the League
cup by Stoke City. Those were the
two trophies Mourinho had lifted last
season. However, they pretty much
relinquished them after just three
months this season. It’s hard to see
them compete for the top four as
they will need a stunning renaissance
in the second half of the season under
their supposed interim boss Guus
Hiddink. The Dutchman had a good
spell at the club some years back
when he lifted the FA Cup and nearly
knocked out Barcelona out of the
Champions League.
Mourinho went from a title winning
manager to one without a job. The
Arsenal fans, who were used to their
boss Arsene Wenger bearing the
brunt, were making most of the
